Customer Spotlight: Fireside BBQ
It’s been just over a year since the grand prize winner of Q104KC’s 104 Days of Summer pulled out of our Olathe service center with Croft’s Ultimate Tailgating Trailer. The winners of the trailer were the Barnes family, who own and operate Fireside BBQ off Mastin and 103rd Street in Overland Park, KS. We decided to check in with them and see how the Ultimate Tailgating Trailer has been treating them.
Fireside BBQ first opened their doors in the summer of 2014, but the family’s love affair with barbecue started decades ago. It all started when the late Jack Barnes started experimenting with barbecue sauces for chicken wings. Eventually, this lead to Jack and his son, Greg, to compete and win in BBQ competitions. The American Royal and Great American BBQ are only a couple examples of those competitions. It wasn’t until Greg retired from 32 years as a firefighter, however, that the idea for a restaurant was born. Greg’s daughter, Kelly, decided to quit her job of 6 and half years to help run the business with him.
Since that time, the Barnes family has grown their business. They serve up delicious smoked meats, fantastic sides, and a variety of barbecue sauces to their loyal customers. Also, they spend their weekends doing catering events, during which the Ultimate Tailgating Trailer has become a mobile preparation vehicle. Soon they plan on adding a custom built smoker inside. The trailer also acts as a giant billboard for the business. Oftentimes they will park their vintage firetruck with the trailer attached in front of the shop, which gives the business visibility from 103rd Street.
So if you’re in the mood for some amazing barbecue in Overland Park, we’d definitely recommend stopping by Fireside BBQ. Fireside is open every weekday from 11:00am to 1:30pm for lunch and 5:00pm to 7:30pm for dinner.
