Weekends in KC: March 13-15

This weekend is going to be busy for Kansas City. With the Big 12 championship and Planet Comicon happening this weekend, as well as some St. Patrick’s Day events, there is no reason not to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather.

2015 PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: This weekend is dominated by the Big 12 Championships at Sprint Center. Games at 6pm and 8pm on Friday will determine the finalists that will play at 5pm on Saturday. Don’t have tickets to the games? You can still enjoy the Big 12 GameDay Fan Experience, featuring games, music, giveaways and even autographs from former Big 12 stars, outside the Sprint Center for free. Another free event is also being held at Power & Light. The Miller Lite Basketball Fan Fest is an all-day party with

PLANET COMICON: Unleash your inner nerd this weekend at Planet Comicon in Bartle Hall this weekend. This is Kansas City’s largest comic book and pop culture convention, and runs from Friday through Sunday. Get your photo taken with TV and movie stars, meet comic creators, play video and tabletop games, sit in on panels and even enter in a costume contest to win up to $500. ST. PATRICK’S DAY: This Saturday is looking a little green, as both the Westport St. Patrick’s Day run and Snake Saturday Parade will be going on. The 4 mile run starts at 10am in front of Kelly’s in Westport. Visit www.stpatricksday4milerun.com to register for the race. If running isn’t your thing, head to downtown North Kansas City to celebrate Snake Saturday. Snake Saturday is one of the largest Irish Festivals in the area, and is always held the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day. The festival starts on Friday with a carnival and Charity Cook-off, and continues on Saturday with the parade at 11am, a kid’s play area and food vendors. MISSOURI MAVERICKS VS. BRAMPTON BEAST: Kansas City’s only professional hockey team faces off against Brampton Beast Friday night. The game starts at 7:05pm at the Independence Events Center. Go to missourimavericks.com or www.independenceeventscenter.com for tickets and more information.
